Of course the idea, is NOT to get a sunburn. Sometimes, that just doesn’t work out. When you get a little too much sun… or worse, if your kiddos do, having this little jar of relief will make you, (as usual) a superhero. My girlfriend Bathsheba’s brother was visiting from France and they had spent the day at the beach. As pasty as he was, he had burnt to a crisp in the California sun. By the time they reached my house, this guy was suffering. I ended up sending the jar with him that night, as I was certain that he needed it far more than me! I trust that my little remedy made sleep come a little easier than it might have without it.
You will need the following:
* 1/2 cup coconut oil
* 3 table spoons vegetable glycerine (available at any pharmacy or health food store)
* 15 drops lavender essential oil
* 10 drops chamomile essential oil
* 40 drops peppermint essential oil
Instructions:
Add all ingredients to a bowl and combine until smooth. Store in a mason jar. This salve will keep in your fridge indefinitely and the cold storage will be a welcome sensation when you’re ready to use.
But… WHY???
Coconut oil and vegetable glycerine are great for your skin and provide natural chemical free hydration.
Lavender essential oil is good for healing the skin.
Chamomile essential oil is used to calm the area.
Peppermint essential oil is for cooling the burn.
Combined, you are getting a bit of relief and encouraging your skin’s natural healing process at the same time. I hope you will try this ahead of time and tuck it away for the season’s first burn.
